Letter (8.5 x 11in) dividers printing instructions

letter size printable dividers by Jessica Marie Design

Materials

  • Printable Dividers File - Letter Size
  • Adobe Reader - Free Download
  • Binder
  • White Card Stock
  • Printer
  • Hole Punch
  • Tape or Glue Stick

Tips

  • If you are printing the dividers at home, it is highly recommended to use a fresh ink cartridge and higher quality paper.
  • Divider covers and tabs are best printed on white card stock.
  • Borderless Printing: Check your printer for a borderless printing option. If your printer does not have the option for borderless printing, the page design will not print to the edges and there will be a white border along the sides.
  • For extra durability, consider having your dividers laminated.

Editing Text Fields

  • Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader on your computer. Using another program may not display the correct fonts or text alignment.
  • Editable Text Fields: If the file has editable text fields they will appear as blue boxes in Adobe Reader (refer to individual product listing descriptions to see if the file has editable text). It is recommended to save the file after adding new information to each page. I also recommend closing the file, re-opening it, and making sure your changes have saved before adding text throughout the entire document.
  • Editable Plain Text: Please note that the font in the plain text fields can not be changed. The plain text can be edited to be a name or subject. Don't like the plain text font or color? See the instructions for adding your own custom text.

Printing and Assembling the Dividers

Divider Covers

  1. Once your edited divider file is open in Adobe Reader select "File>Print".
  2. In the "Page Size & Handling" section, select "Actual size".
  3. In the "Page Size & Handling" section, select "Choose paper source by PDF page size".
  4. Click on the "Page Setup" button.
  5. In the "Paper Size" drop down menu select "US Letter Borderless". (Check printer manual for this capability). Not all printers are able to print borderless. If your printer does not have borderless printing as an option then you will get a thin white border around the edges of the paper.
  6. If your printer automatically prints double sided be sure to select "double sided" and then click on the "print" button. If your printer does NOT automatically print double sided follow the following steps.
  7. Under the "Pages to Print" drop down menu, select to print "Odd pages only".
  8. Then select "Normal" for page order. (if you do not see this option your printer should automatically print in normal order)
  9. Once your Odd pages are printed, you will want to feed that stack of pages back into your printer in whichever direction YOUR printer feeds paper back in. Many printers feed paper differently, you will want to be observant of that. In most cases, you will feed the odd pages in the exact way they came out. Then you can print the even pages. (I recommend doing a test print of 2 pages to make sure you have the correct settings, that paper is being fed in correctly, and that the pages are in order, i.e. matching front divider and back divider pages).
  10. After selecting "Actual size", "Choose paper source by PDF page size", and "US Letter Borderless" again (settings may restore to default after each print), go back to "Pages to Print" and select "Even pages only" now.
  11. Then select "Reverse pages".
  12. You should end up with the pages printed in the proper order. (i.e. matching front divider and back divider pages)

Divider Tabs

  1. Open the edited Divider Tabs file in Adobe Reader and select "File>Print".
  2. In the "Page Size & Handling" section, select "Actual size".
  3. In the "Page Size & Handling" section, select "Choose paper source by PDF page size".
  4. In the "Pages to Print" section select "Current Page" if you would like to only print the editable tabs. If you would like to print both the editable tabs and monthly tabs then select "All".

Tab Guide

  1. Open the Tab Guide file in Adobe Reader and select "File>Print".
  2. In the "Page Size & Handling" section, select "Actual size".
  3. In the "Page Size & Handling" section, select "Choose paper source by PDF page size".
  4. In the "Paper Size" drop down menu select "US Letter Borderless".

Attaching the Tabs

  1. Cut out the tabs.
  2. Fold the tabs in half. (See diagram on tab page)
  3. Use the Tab Guide to align the tabs on the divider covers.
  4. Align the dashed line on the tabs with the edge of the divider covers.
  5. Using tape or a glue stick attach the tab to the divider.
